Above all, finding the best burial insurance for seniors in 2023 does not have to be as difficult as some may think.
Ultimately, the goal is to protect your loved ones (beneficiary) from the financial hardship when you pass away. Most of us know that when someone passes away, it is a very expensive event, and that cost keeps climbing.
This is why it is so important to find yourself a national independent agent, and to have them pair you up with the best possible carrier in the country for your situation.
Burial insurance for seniors is not a one-size-fits-all. Simply put, everyone’s situation is unique, and may require different carriers to consider for each circumstance. Most importantly, let’s find the best burial insurance for you in 2023.
Best Burial Insurance for Seniors
Ultimately, the best burial insurance is the one that is in place when your family needs it. This means that the best policy to have, is the one that pays your beneficiary.
With that said, there are some fantastic options in 2023 for seniors when it comes to burial insurance. Here are my top choices:
Mutual of Omaha
Mutual of Omaha remains a fantastic burial insurance carrier for seniors going into 2023. If you watched TV during the 70’s or 80’s, you absolutely have heard of Mutual of Omaha. They sponsored the show “Wild Kingdom” that aired on Television during that time frame.
Being a household name, many of my clients choose to do business with them. Most importantly, I want my clients to know that they can 100% trust these carriers, and many do trust Mutual of Omaha.
They have been around for over 100 years, and have fantastic financial ratings and strength. For my healthy clients, this is the go to carrier. Overall, simplicity is important I feel, and the process is fairly easy, but if you struggle with email, it may not be the easiest. Luckily for you, I know the process inside and out and can walk anyone through it.
In my professional opinion, Aetna has the easiest application process in the industry. More importantly, they have a fantastic product, along with very strong financial rating, and are very well known. In fact, anytime you go to a Walgreens and see the CVS logo, this is the same company.
As I mentioned, the process is very simple. You answer the health questions, and the signature is a simple security question. That’s it! Answer a security question and your policy is signed and most likely issued immediately.
The price is extremely competitive, sometimes even more competitive than Mutual of Omaha. Where Aetna shines is on certain health issues like COPD. With CVS, COPD clients that are NOT taking oxygen can get day one level coverage. Nowhere else offers this service for COPD clients!
Royal Neighbors of America
Royal Neighbors (RNA) will always be in my list of top carriers unless something drastically changes.
With arguably one of the best stories of all of the companies, they match the rich history with a rich product and benefits. This company has been around since the 1800’s, and was started by a group of women. In a time when women didn’t even have the right to vote, 4 of them started a Life Insurance company that still stands very strong today.
This is a fraternal company, meaning the policyholders are the most important piece to their puzzle! Because of this, they offer phenomenal discounts and benefits to their policyholders. Among these benefits, one of them is a free basic will! A phenomenal option for clients that are healthy, have weight issues, or even mental health issues!
While they are a company of S.USA life, Prosperity holds its own when compared to the top burial insurance companies in the nation! This company has a great history and a long one like most of the others.
There are several reasons to love Prosperity, one main one being they have 3 different levels of coverage under the same company.
- For healthy clients that have low-minor health issues.
- Clients that have issues like Diabetic Neuropathy, COPD, CHF, etc.
- Great option for those with more severe issues.
All of these options are provided by Prosperity, so you don’t worry about going to an outside carrier. Among other benefits, Prosperity is one of the few carriers that do True Social Security Billing.
This is important for those with SSI benefits, as you never worry that your money won’t be in your account when the insurance premium is drafted. With these clients in mind, Prosperity coordinates with SSI to make sure your money is there when they draft. This is such a relief for many of my clients.
Great Western is a fantastic company, but I only use them for my clients that have severe health issues, and that will not qualify for a Graded or Level product.
With that said, my clients with bad health issues like cancer, CHF, COPD with oxygen, etc, need my help just as bad as my healthy clients. Great Western is the best company for that job.
They are extremely well known for the Guaranteed Issue product which is what the clients with health issues normally get paired up with.
Above all, my clients that have health issues are protected extremely well when they get their burial insurance through Great Western.
Sliding in on this list, Royal Arcanum is a fantastic carrier for the right client. Especially for my New York clients, Royal Arcanum is amazing.
They are often times the most affordable option, which many clients like. Also like Royal Neighbors, they are a fraternal company so they have several discounts and benefits for their policyholders as well.
For clients outside of New York, I love Royal Arcanum for those with health issues that would render them open to a Guaranteed Issue product. With Royal Arcanum, they can get a graded policy which has a better death benefit in the first two years of the policy life.
What is Burial Insurance?
Keeping Transparency in mind, it’s important to understand what burial insurance truly is.
Simply put, burial insurance is a form of whole life insurance that is designed to cover costs of burial or cremation. The policies range in coverage amounts of $1,500 up to $50,000.
With burial insurance policies, the beneficiary typically receives the death benefit payout within 24-48 hours of receiving the death certificate.
Burial insurance carriers typically have age restrictions as well. Mostly, these are only for people aged 45-80. There are companies like CVS that will accept up to 89, and others that will go up to 85.
How to Find the Best Burial Insurance
As mentioned previously, the best way to find the best burial insurance rates for seniors is to work with a great, nationally licensed, independent agent.
Luckily for you, I’m right here! I am licensed in many states across this great nation, and am proud to specialize in helping seniors get the best burial insurance that is available to them.
Most importantly, I want my clients to remember that I work for them, not the carriers. My relationships with my clients depend on me doing my job at the highest level. This means getting them the most affordable, and highest quality option that is available to them.
